History of the castle

In the first written record, we can read that in this place, there was once hospital in the possession of knights of St. John. The hospital could have been like a fortress that operated for 300 years. This is confirmed by the partly unexplored cellar system under the castle and the already explored, well-recognisable stubby walls and low arches.

Looking at the origins of the castle, the only record can be read above the entrance in Latin. Reading it tells us that the castle was built by Királyfalvi Róth Tamás’s wife, Wattay Borbála at the previously mentioned date.

The castle got into the possession of the Teleki family through the marriage of Királyfalvi Róth Tamás’s and Wattay Borbálas’s only daughter, Johanna, and Teleki József.

The members of the Degenfeld family stayed here until this date, then Russian soldiers damaged and burned the castle down.

A lot of money was won on a tender, published by the National Petroleum Industry Trust, to renovate the castle, where it was rebuilt to its original state by means of a monument.

After almost 10 years of renovation, the gates of the castle hotel of Szirák were opened. Ever since then, the individual guests choose the Teleki-Degenfeld Castle Hotel with great satisfaction for relaxation and recreation. Thanks to the constant maintenance, the castle serves as a tarnished location for corporate events and weddings to this day.

It has become one of the gems of the national holiday chain Forever Resort that comprises numerous countries of the world. To this day, the castle hotel is run by the mentioned operator.
